Frequently asked questions about Montagekit

What is Montagekit?
Montagekit is a universal and elastic adhesive for securing materials to walls, floors and ceilings. The adhesive is also a filler and thus fills in any irregularities in the materials so that joints that do not fit precisely are also fixed securely. The adhesive supports the material that is glued and absorbs the settling of the materials so that they do not come apart.

What is the difference between Montagekit Super Strength and Montagekit Extreme grip?
Montagekit Super Strength and Montagekit Extreme Grip are composed of different basic elements. As a result, the two adhesives have different characteristics and are suitable for different applications. Thus Montagekit Super Strength is extremely suitable, for example, for fixing skirting boards and timber framework while Montagekit Extreme Grip is particularly suitable for assembling decorative and insulation materials.

How can I glue materials under pressure?
When fixing a skirting board to a wall it can happen, for example, that the wall or skirting board is not totally straight. A light pressure is exerted on the skirting board. With Montagekit Super Strength you can still fix the skirting board if you use the power bonding method. Apply the Montagekit Super Strength to the skirting board and press the skirting board against the wall. It may sound somewhat strange but, after this, pull the skirting board away from the wall once again and allow the adhesive to dry for 5 minutes. After you have done this, if you once again press the skirting board firmly against the wall then you can be guaranteed that it will remain fastened.

Which materials can I glue with Montagekit?
You can glue practically all materials with one or other of the Montagekits.

Montagekit Super Strength is often used for mounting wood on stone-based materials or concrete.

Montagekit Extreme Grip is especially intended for the assembly of horizontal agglutinates where high initial bond strength is required. However, one of the components to be glued must be sufficiently porous (absorbent). Montagekit Extreme Grip is also the most suitable for assembly on highly absorbent substrates.

Montagekit Transparant: ideal for joining decorative elements to walls and ceilings.

Can I glue polystyrene foam with Montagekit?
Yes. Make sure, however, that you use Montagekit Extreme Grip. This adhesive is extremely suitable for mounting polystyrene foam directly on porous substrates such as untreated wood, concrete or stone.

How does the power bonding method work?
Apply adhesive to the material to be bonded and press the material against the substrate. It may sound strange, but now pull the material free once again. The result of this is that there is now adhesive on both the material and the substrate. Allow the adhesive to dry for 5 minutes and then once again press the material firmly against the substrate. This method guarantees high initial bond strength. This is important if, for example, you cannot clamp or if you are bonding under slight pressure.

Note: the power bonding method can only be applied with Montagekit Super Strength.

How long does Montagekit keep?
All adhesives have a limited shelf life. You achieve the optimum shelf life by keeping the packaging in a cool, dry and enclosed space. Montagekit Super Strength, Extreme Grip and Transparant have a shelf life of at least 24 months. If the packaging has been opened then the shelf life is shorter: once the packaging has been opened it can never be hermetically closed.

How do I use Montagekit?
This depends on the type of Montagekit. Firstly, you need a sealant gun in order to be able to discharge the sealant from the cartridge. As well as for Montagekits, you can also use this sealant gun for other products such as Siliconenkits and Acrylaatkits. In general, the adhesive should be applied in dots or strips on one of the materials to be glued together. Next, both materials are brought into contact with each other and perhaps pressed together. For Montagekit Super Strength, the power bonding method can be used as well as this method.

What are the advantages of using Montagekit?
Montagekit is a filling adhesive. If, for example, a skirting board does not fit flush against the wall then this adhesive can be used to glue it sturdily in place: the adhesive fills in any irregularities. Another great advantage is that nails are no longer required to fix this skirting board to the wall. No ugly nail heads on the skirting board and no more hammering in a rock-hard wall.

Is Montagekit waterproof?
All Montagekits have a certain level of waterproofness.

Montagekit Extreme Grip and Transparant are waterproof assuming they are not subjected to contact with water for protracted periods of time.

Montagekit Super Strength is suitable for exposure to water for protracted periods. It is important that no moisture ingresses in glued porous material such as wood. This moisture can, as it were, peel off the adhesive layer of the material. You need not be afraid of this if you are joining painted or impregnated wood as they are protected against moisture.

Why are there 3 different Montagekits?
There are many different types of materials and many different requirements are set for a joint. For each application and each material, you will need to check which Montagekit has the most suitable characteristics. Thus, for securing a polystyrene foam decorative element, Montagekit Transparant is the most suitable.

Can I also use Montagekit to fix something to the ceiling?
Yes. Before you begin, you should remove any poorly adhered layers of plaster, paint and whitewash.

Depending on what you want to glue to the ceiling and how porous the ceiling is, you can choose to use Montagekit Extreme Grip and Montagekit Transparant (direct bonding) or Montagekit Super Strength (power bonding method). If you use other Montagekits or heavy materials then you should support the joint until the adhesive is dry.

How much Montagekit do I need?
The amount of adhesive required depends to a large extent on the sort of job and the type of Montagekit. In general, joining larger boards requires less adhesive than, for example, timber frameworks or laths. In addition, the space between the material and the substrate that needs to be filled also plays a role.

As a guideline: for boards, 2 to 2.5 m2 per cartridge and for timber framework and lathing, 1.5 to 2 m2 per cartridge. Montagekit Super Strength, Montagekit Extreme Grip and Montagekit Transparant are also available in tubes for smaller jobs and in pots for larger jobs.

Can I use Montagekit outdoors?
Yes. You should however bear a few points in mind. The material to be glued and the substrate must be clean, dry and grease-free before starting the joining.

How can I best keep an opened package?
It is important to close the cartridge as best you can. After use, you should unscrew the nozzle from the cartridge, place a piece of plastic or aluminium foil over the cartridge and then screw the nozzle back on again. The nozzle also has a cap. You can also place some foil between the nozzle and the cap. Furthermore, it is important to store the adhesive in a cool and dry place.

Which Montagekit should I use for securing decorative elements?
To secure decorative elements such as decorative edging or ornaments made from, for example, gypsum or polyurethane foam, you can best use Bison Montagekit Transparant. This universal Montagekit dries to a transparent finish. It provides invisible mounting.
